Treating Pet Allergies at Your Canton Veterinarian

We all know humans can get allergies. But did you ever consider that your four-legged family members may be suffering from allergies, too?

At the Belpar Pet Care Centre, our Canton, North Canton, and Massillon veterinarian team encourages every pet owner to educate themselves about pet allergies, and to bring their animals in for routine check-ups to make sure their health is intact.

Common Signs & Symptoms of a Pet Allergy

Your cat or dog can't tell you if it feels unwell. So, as a pet owner, it's important to pay attention to your animal's behavior and contact your vet right away if you notice any of the following persisting issues:

  • Sneezing and/or runny nose
  • Coughing
  • Frequent ear infections, especially ones that return after any prescribed medications are stopped
  • Itchy, flaky, red, and/or irritated skin or bald patches
  • Diarrhea and/or vomiting
  • Excessive licking or itching

These and other symptoms may indicate that something in your pet's environment is triggering an atypical immune system response, and causing inflammation and irritation within a variety of your pet's physiological systems (digestive, integumentary, respiratory, etc.).

How Our Massillon Veterinarian Team Treats & Prevents Pet Allergies

If your pet has allergies, then reducing its risk of exposure to known allergens is an important part of comprehensive animal care. But the only way to know for sure to know what's causing the allergic reaction is to bring your pet in to see our Massillon veterinarian team. During an examination, we can run special tests and lab work to determine what's causing your pet's symptoms. Common allergens include food, mold, household chemicals, parasites, and pollen.

Once the root cause of your pet's allergies has been identified, we'll provide any necessary medications to reduce inflammation, pain, and other symptoms associated with the allergy. You'll also leave with the tools and knowledge to eliminate or reduce your pet's exposure to its known allergen at home.
